Kiyomizu ware has a history dating back to the 5th century but saw its development during the Momoyama era when the tea ceremony became widespread. This art form involves various artists, each contributing with their distinctive characteristics. However, generally, for the production of Kiyomizu yaki, mixed clays from different regions such as Shigaraki, Iga, Amakusa are used, as Kyoto lacks the necessary clay for ceramics production. These clays, soft and suitable for fine work, are chosen for their quality.
Suiko Miyamoto, a renowned artisan, comes from the tradition of Kutani-yaki and is known for the characteristic green color of his works.
